About Negeri Sembilan

Negeri Sembilan Flag

Negeri Sembilan is inhabited by a multiracial society that exceeds 1 million persons with the Malay community making up the majority with 61.5 percent. The Chinese community makes up 22.9 percent, the Indian community with 15.1 percent, while other ethnicities make up 0.5 percent.

Negeri Sembilan has the distinct uniqueness of culture and tradition. It is generally known that the uniqueness stems from its tradition of Adat Perpatih (or Perpatih Laws) which is handed down from generation to generation.

Negeri Sembilan is ruled by the Yang di-Pertuan Besar Negeri Sembilan and the monarchy system is modelled according to Adat Perpatih. During the 18th Century, the Minangkabau people from Sumatera emigrated to Negeri Sembilan bringing their family along. In this new land, they lived in groups according to familial relationships. The name Negeri Sembilan means nine states, but it was agreed that this name did not mean that Negeri Sembilan is comprised of nine specific regions.

Port Dickson Ostrich Show Farm

Shrieks of laughter fill the air, as visitors join our ostriches, donkeys, goats and other animals to sing: donkeys baying, ostriches honking and the cows mooing. FUN is the word at the iconic PD Ostrich Show Farm; its name belies the variety of animals and fruit trees available. Even on a hot day, it’s shady & breezy.

No visitor should ever leave without first taking photos with our ostriches.

Ostriches and animals are not the only attractions at PD Ostrich.

Brand new are Planet Jurassic and the Carnivorous Plant garden. At these two attractions, the world as we know it is turned upside down as giant dinosaurs, powered by animaltronics, roar; and, plants gobble up insects.

There are activities galore for visitors of all ages: ostrich ride, ostrich race, horse & horse carriage ride, ATVs, archery, train rides even! And, of course, the not-to-be-missed ostrich satay! Or our Cendol Dinosaur. We are not ashamed to claim it’s simply the best!

Night Farm Safari & PD Lights

This is the LATEST & BRIGHTEST attraction in Port Dickson. It’s also the only NIGHT attraction in PD

Welcome to PD Lights @ PD Ostrich. PD Lights turns the sprawling and open PD Ostrich into a fairy land after 7pm every Friday-Sunday. More than 40 light sculptures are dotted along the pathway: contrast the African wild animals (lions, elephants, etc) with live farm animals (ostriches, goats, donkeys, etc)

Be amazed by the light sculptures of marine creatures: whale, turtles, etc. Can you ape Michael Jackson’s iconic ‘frozen’ Moonwalk? While you click away at the many light sculptures, don’t forget to observe PD Ostrich’s farm animals in a different light. How do animals sleep? Do they stand, sit or lie down?

What animals are active at night? Do they eat at night, like some humans do?

Don’t say, there’s nothing to do in PD after dark.

MUZIUM DIRAJA ISTANA LAMA SERI MENANTI

The Old Seri Menanti Palace is a unique castle made of wood. It was built in 1902 and completed in 1908 as the restored Palace was burned by British troops in pursuit of Yamtuan Antah during the Battle of Bukit Putus. The officiating ceremony of this palace was officiated by the deceased DYMM of the late Muhammad Ibni the late Yamtuan Antah. He lived in this palace until 1931 and moved to a new palace near the old palace.

The palace is four stories high. The plan was originally devised by two Malay craftsmen named Kahar and Taib. The barbarian was awarded the title of Dato 'Commander Sutan by Tuanku Muhammad for his service. The plan of the palace was re-elaborated by the Chief Designer of the Plan, Mr. Woodford of JKR, Seremban and was approved in November 1902 by the British State Engineer and Resident.

Muzium Teratak Za’ba

Teratak Zaaba is a museum dedicated to the life of the learned Malay writer, Zainal Abidin bin Ahmad, better known by the abbreviation Za’aba (sometimes spelt Za’ba). He is credited with modernising the Malay language and pioneering grammatical rules through the publication of a series of grammar books. The museum is located at his birthplace in Bukit Kerdas near Kuala Pilah in Negeri Sembilan. It is housed in a beautifully preserved wooden building of traditional Negeri Sembilan architectural style. The word ‘teratak’ can be translated as hovel, but this fine building can hardly be described as a hovel.

WAN LOONG TEMPLE

Wan Loong Temple is located along the 7th mile of the Port Dickson coastal road, just opposite the PD World Marina Resort. This Chinese temple, with its opulent architecture and imposing fortress walls, is hard to miss at left along the main road, if coming south towards Malacca from PD town. The temple name means 'Dragon of the Clouds', but it pays homage to several oriental deities, including Kuan Yi (goddess of mercy) and the Monkey King. Opposite is an equally ornate seafood restaurant that resembles a temple complex. Open throughout the day (and even night), the temple is free to enter as long as you do your exploration quietly.

Established since 2012 at a cost of MYR38 million, the state-of-the-art complex features a sophisticated 24-inch telescope for tracking the moon, stars and various celestial objects in the sky. There is also a solar telescope for daytime viewing of the sun, along with an observation deck equipped with mounted binoculars. Open daily to public between 3-5pm and 10.30pm-midnight, visitors are ushered to a theatre for an astronomy presentation before a guided tour of the observatory, including viewing the sky through the telescope. KOTA LUKUT

Lukut is a town adjacent to Port Dickson at north, famed for its fishing activities, culinary attractions and bird nest production. A rich historical site, Lukut was once a major tin mining area in historical times under royal patronage, as evidenced by the ruins of Kota Lukut, a fort built to safeguard the industry. Today, visitors from PD often drop by to eat popular local dishes. The Lukut Rivermouth is home to many seafood restaurants while being a top angling destination. Kota Lukut is a historic fort situated 4km north of Port Dickson, perched on top a scenic hill at a small town. Built in 1847 by Bugis warrior Raja Jumaat, the fort was his personal stronghold as he watched over the tin trade in the area. Today, almost nothing remains of the structure and its surroundings, except for a few ruined walls and foundation stones.

PD WATERFRONT

PD waterfront is an esplanade development at Port Dickson's town center, facing the sea off Pulau Arang. A popular spot in the evening for families to fly kites, the PD Waterfront project is also a designated entertainment, dining and shopping zone, lined with contemporary shoplots along a seafront boulevard, with recreational parks fronting the promenade walk. Once fully completed, this integrated township will include a water theme park, five star water chalet-based resort, budget hotel, serviced apartment, duty-free zone, marine aquarium, convention hall and even a 1-km cable car that links PD Waterfront to Pulau Arang, the uninhabited mangrove island off its coast.

TELUK KEMANG

Teluk Kemang is the most popular beach destination of Port Dickson, and the largest in terms of facilities and infrastructure. Located between 7th and 8th mile of PD, Teluk Kemang is where most hotels, resorts and family apartments are concentrated. Tourist attractions within the vicinity include Baitul Hilal, Ostrich Farm and Pusat Ikan Hiasan.

The shoreline is spacious and draped with fine sand, varying between cream and ochre-coloured hues while the immediate sea waters play host to a variety of motorised water sports. A large recreational zone along the beachfront provides gazebos, paved footpaths, car parks, walkways, shower facilities and even a large square with public stage. Souvenir shops, hawker stalls and restaurants comprise the rest.

PANTAI CERMIN

Pantai Cermin is a quiet beach destination directly behind Blue Lagoon, hidden away at the opposite side of Cape Rachado (Tanjung Tuan). The long strip of beach is spacious and peaceful, but frequented less by visitors. Similiar to Teluk Kemang, the sand here is of an orange hue, but with a fine texture mixed with black ore deposits washed up by sea waves.

The waters are rather murky due to the muddy sea bed, but it's still clean, with a beautiful view of the rainforest and mangroves at its eastern edge. Two family hotels provide apartment accommodation at Pantai Cermin - Casa Rachado and Permaisuri Resort, while PNB Ilham Resort is at neighbouring Blue Lagoon.

PANTAI CAHAYA NEGERI

Pantai Cahaya Negeri is one of PD's largest beaches, situated on a vast coastal strip between 5th and 6th mile of Port Dickson. It has one of the highest densities of family hotels and resorts within the area, owing to its natural beauty, wealth of public facilities and good infrastructure. The main feature along the beach is an artificial cape that houses a recreational park lined with picnic gazebos.

The cape also links to a small mangrove island called 'Pulau Burung' by a wooden bridge, although visitors may stroll there on foot at low tide. A boardwalk on the island leads to a platform where a watchtower provides a panoramic view of PD's coastline. Some of the popular activities here include water sports, boating, fishing, camping and berbeques.

PANTAI PURNAMA

Pantai Purnama is a beach destination at 9th mile of Port Dickson, isolated from view along the main road through PD but accessible through residential areas. The name translates to 'Moonlight' in English, refering to its peaceful environment ideal for gazing at the moon at night. The beach itself begins from the base of Teluk Kemang Observatory, but the coastal strip lies uninterrupted till reaching Blue Lagoon.

Usually uncrowded, even during weekends, Pantai Purnama is equipped with camping, shower and barbeque facilities, with a single canteen that serves local food. The secluded atmosphere makes it an ideal spot for quiet family getaways or a romantic rendezvous among couples. The sea waters are also clear and gentle, with pretty rock formations that reveal themselves at low tide.
